Bihar Police inspector suspended for calling PM Modi a traitor

PATNA: A , (57), posted in Khagaria district, was suspended by Munger range DIG (in-charge) Vikas Vaibhav on Tuesday after he allegedly shared a derogatory post against Prime Minister calling him traitor on a WhatsApp group.
The action was taken by Vaibhav on Khagaria SP Meenu Kumari‘s report against Islam.

Vaibhav said the inspector had posted a morphed picture of PM Modi showing him shaking hands with terror organisation Laskhar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed. “The PM was mentioned as traitor in the picture,” DIG said adding departmental proceedings would also be initiated against Islam.

“Action was taken against the inspector on basis of Khagaria SP‘s report on the issue,” DIG Vaibhav said. He also said that the SP had received complaint against Islam on January 5 this year.

He said legal opinion was also being sought by the SP if the inspector‘s act attracts any legal action against him. “The act seemed intentional as the post was not deleted by the officer neither did he apologise in the group,” he said.

Khagaria SP said that a district-level BJP leader Alok Kumar Vidyarthi had submitted a written complaint before her against the inspector for sharing a photograph of PM Modi and Saeed on a WhatsApp group named ‘Udyog Prakoshth‘ from his personal cell phone number.

“After receiving the complaint, sadar SDPO Ramanand Sagar was ordered to conduct an inquiry against Islam in which it surfaced that Vidyarthi‘s complaint was true,” SP said.

She said the inspector during the inquiry, told SDPO that it was his grandson who had wrongly shared the post on WhatsApp. “Explanation was not found satisfactory after which report was sent to DIG for action,” the SP said. She said Islam‘s act was against the service rules of .

She said that Islam had joined service as a sub-inspector and was later promoted to inspector rank. “He is on the verge of retirement and was even transferred to Bagaha for final posting on January 1. He was also relieved from duty in Khagaria on January 8 but in between the complaint was received,” she said adding a station diary entry was made with the Town police station in the district in connection with the incident where Islam was posted as station house officer till a month back.
