Karwar: Union defence minister assured a delegation of evacuees that she would ensure that a compensation of Rs 600 crore will be distributed among the affected families before the first week of February.
A delegation of evacuees along with union minister Anantkumar Hegde met the defence minister in Delhi on Wednesday. The delegation went to Delhi as they could not meet her when she had visited Karwar last week.
Roopali Naik, who is the secretary of BJP Women‘s Morcha of Karnataka and was the part of the delegation, told TOI that the defence minister listened to the grievances of the families affected by the project.
The evacuees are waiting for compensation for the last 30 years.
She added that Nirmala informed the delegation that she would personally come to Karwar to distribute compensation to the affected families and assured that all cases pending under clause 18/A and 28/A of the Land Acquisition act will be disposed by the end of January. The defence minister also promised that the navy will sympathetically consider providing jobs to the members of families of the land losers and also provide them alternative land.
Seabird Land loser‘s Association secretary Subhash Naik and members Ravi Naik, Satish Prabhakar Talekar and Dinesh Gowda were part of the delegation which met the minister.
