MARGAO: The Goa Pradesh Committee (GPCC) has alleged that the food and drugs administration’s (FDA) second report certifying fish samples to be safe, was “completely prepared under political influence”.

GPCC spokesperson Sidhanath Buyao demanded action against those responsible for “creating panic in society for wrong and inaccurate reports” if the government is convinced about the accuracy of the second report.

The Congress requested Goans to “boycott this harmful fish till the government ensures safety and takes responsibility of the health of each and every Goenkar”.

Buyao claimed that as the wholesale fish traders’ association had close ties with agriculture minister Vijai Sardesai, “the entire political influence on the FDA has come from him”. “But it has come at the cost of the health of several thousand Goans,” he said.
