VADODARA: walking into Gotri won’t have to face the usual irate behaviour of cops. Instead, they will be treated to a warm greeting by cops, who will be eager to lend a helping hand. A first-of-its-kind was inaugurated at police station by Manoj Sashidhar, the city police commissioner, on Thursday.

The centre is at the entry to the police station and will have cops posted at it round the clock. “Citizens come to police station for various purposes. Some want to file a complaint, others a query about passport verification and some need counselling. We decided to set up this centre as a single window system,” Sashidhar told TOI.

“People visiting the police station will be first greeted at the facilitation centre. They can put queries to the cops posted there. They will listen to the citizen’s issues and direct them to the right place. This will benefit both cops and citizens,” Sashidhar said. He added that cops posted at the facilitation centre have been given special training on handling queries patiently and counselling skills.

If the facilitation centre gets a good response, similar centres will be started at other police stations. Former city police commissioner, Satish Sharma had also taken an initiative to make sure policemen behave properly with the public during his tenure here.

Sharma used to keep tabs on calls made to the police control room and would randomly give callers a call. He would ask if they had got a proper response from the control room and if their queries had been solved.

He had also asked cops at police stations to behave properly with citizens and solve their queries patiently.
